See what Gemini costs you, per model and project
Track Gemini spend every day per model and project, from the Gemini API and AI Studio to Vertex AI, Code Assist and Gemini Enterprise.
Highlights
Every way you pay for Gemini
AI Studio keys, Vertex AI, Code Assist and Gemini Enterprise all bill to a Cloud Billing account. RootSpend reads them all from one place.
Broken down by model
Spend is kept per model, so you can see which Gemini models your teams actually pay for.
Counted once
Connect Google Cloud on the same billing export too, and Gemini lines move here instead of being counted twice.
What you get from Gemini
- Gemini API spend, including paid Google AI Studio keys
- Gemini models on Vertex AI, Gemini Code Assist and Gemini Enterprise
- Spend per model, with token usage where Google reports it
- Spend per team from a resource label (optional)
- Projects you can hand to a team
- Budgets, forecasts and spike alerts
What it doesn't do yet
- Cost per person. The billing export has no users, so teams claim projects or use a label.
- Free tier use, which Google doesn't bill.
- Gemini in Google Workspace. It's part of the Workspace seat price.
- Google AI Pro or Ultra bought by individuals. Add those as a seat plan.
Gemini spend hides in your cloud bill
Gemini is easy to start using: an AI Studio key here, a Vertex AI model there, Code Assist for the engineers. It all lands on a Google Cloud invoice as a long list of SKUs, mixed in with everything else.
How it works
RootSpend reads your Cloud Billing export to BigQuery with a read only service account and keeps only the Gemini lines, per model and per project. Set a label key, like team, and the split happens per label value instead.
Gemini then sits in the AI tools category next to OpenAI and Claude, so your AI total includes it. If you also connect Google Cloud on the same export, Gemini is still counted only once.
Gemini questions
Google has no cost API for Gemini. Every paid Gemini product bills to a Cloud Billing account, and the billing export to BigQuery is where Google puts that data.
No. If both read the same billing export, the Gemini lines belong to the Gemini connector, and RootSpend skips the copies on the Google Cloud side.
Only what you grant. Give the service account access to the billing export dataset and nothing else.
