Bring your Google Cloud bill into the same view as everything else

Track Google Cloud spend every day per service and project from your billing export, with Vertex AI, Gemini and Claude on Vertex counted as AI.

Highlights

The standard export

Google Cloud has no cost API, so RootSpend reads the billing export to BigQuery, the way Google recommends.

AI lands in AI

Vertex AI, Gemini and Claude on Vertex go to the AI tools category, next to OpenAI and Claude.

Scans stay small

Every query is filtered by date and capped on the bytes it can bill, so the cost of reading your bill stays tiny.

What you get from Google Cloud

  • Daily net cost per service and project, after credits
  • Vertex AI, Gemini and Claude on Vertex under AI tools
  • Gemini lines move to the Gemini connector when you connect it on the same export
  • Spend per team from a resource label (optional)
  • Projects you can hand to a team
  • Budgets, forecasts and spike alerts

What it doesn't do yet

  • Data from before the billing export was turned on.
  • Cost per person. The export has no users, so teams claim projects or use a label.
  • BigQuery charges its own fee for the bytes each sync scans, capped at 50 GB by default.

Your cloud bill, next to your AI bill

If your AI features run on Vertex AI or Gemini, that spend is part of your AI cost, even though it arrives on a cloud invoice. RootSpend puts it where it belongs.

How it works

You give RootSpend a service account key and the name of your billing export table. Every day it reads net cost per service and per project, after credits. Set a label key, like team, and the split happens per label value instead.

Every query is filtered by date and capped on the bytes it can bill, so reading your bill doesn't turn into a cost of its own.

Google Cloud questions

The Cloud Billing export to BigQuery turned on, and a service account with read access to that dataset and permission to run queries in one project.

The export only holds data from the day it was turned on. Turn it on as early as you can, even before you connect.

Only what you grant. Give the service account access to the billing export dataset and nothing else.
